Next, you'll explore real-world examples to gain in-depth knowledge of firewalls and network defense. You'll start with the basics, understanding how to install, configure, and protect network resources using native features and additional OPNsense plugins. This book is a practical guide to building a comprehensive network defense strategy using OPNsense. With OPNsense, you can now protect networks using features that were only previously available to closed source commercial firewalls. OPNsense is one of the most powerful open source firewalls and routing platforms available. Grasp hands-on examples and labs to become proficient with OPNsense firewall.Defend against attacks by leveraging third-party plugins such as Nginx and Sensei.Learn end-to-end OPNsense firewall implementation and management. However, the web interface will need utilized after installation to complete the initial configuration of Sensei.Work with one of the most efficient open-source FreeBSD-based firewall and routing solutions to secure your network with ease This option is still available for users who have local access to the OPNsense system yet prefer using command line tools or who may only have remote shell access via SSH to administrate their OPNsense installations.

The command line installation method was the primary means for installing Sensei before it was available on the “Plugins” page in the OPNsense web interface. To install Sensei in OPNsense with the command line interface, you must use an administrative account with shell access. Once Sensei is installed, you will need to complete the initial configuration using the web interface. Although the preferred method of installation is the web interface (see instructions here), Sensei may also be installed using the command line interface via SSH or direct system access.
